T-I read about how a plague is infecting Thebes and how Creon has discovered that the man who killed the past king Laius must be punished for his crime.
EX-"The God commanded clearly: let someone punish with force this dead man's murders." (page 431 line 120-121)
T- Does anyone have an idea that Oedipus their king was the one who supposedly brought this plague to Thebes by killing King Laius?

  2. T- something interesting that i read from pages 426-431 was how the priest wanted oedipus to save the city of Thebes from being tormented in ruins by the sphinx.
EX-the priest said, "now oedipus, greatest in all mens eyes, here falling at your feet we all entreat you, find us some strength for rescue." (page 428 line 46-48.)
T- What exactly did oedipus do to gain so much respect and honer, when he saved the city the first time?
Y-this reading made me feel like, its not up to just one man to save a city. just one man cant do it alone, and i feel concerned that all these people are in a hard time and are depending on one man to save their city, when really they should be helping out as well.

  3. T: I read about how the priest was begging Oedipus to save the city and town from the plague, like he did the Sphinx.
EX: "Raise up our city, save it and raise it up. Once you have brought us luck with happy omen; be no less now in fortune." (page 429:59-61)
T: When Oedipus talks about how he is "sick himself" is he talking about the plague or just being full of himself and his duties?
Y: This section of reading made me question Oedipus's dedication to his city.

  4. T: I read about how the priest was trying to get Oedipus to save Thebes from the plague, because he saved the city from the Sphinx.
EX: Priest: "You came and by your coming saved our city, freed us from tribute which we paid of old to the Sphinx, cruel singer"(429.39-41).
T: Is the servant who saved Oedipus' life still alive, and does he know that Oedipus is who he is?
Y: The reading made me wonder why Oedipus doesn't go to the Pythian temple himself. If he wants to save his city, why doesn't he try harder?

  5. T-Something that I read about was when Oedipus starts off the play by talking about how the streets smell everybody is getting sick and how they are dying.
EX-“The town is heavy with a mingled burden of sounds and smells of groans and hymns and incense; I did not think it fit that I should hear of this from messengers but came myself,- I Oedipus whom all men call the Great” (Sophocles 427)
T- I was a little confused on why he was upset that a messenger had to tell him that a plague hit the city. Why would he want to find out first hand?
Y-I have never been plagued, but Cancer is in our society, and this might be how family members feel when someone becomes diagnosed with a dieses so bad.

  6. T- Something that i read about is how Oedipus saved the city from the Sphinx and now the priest is asking Oedipus to find the murderer of Liaus soon because the plague is killing many men.
EX- "You came and by your coming saved our city, freed us from tribute which we paid of old to the Sphinx, cruel singer."
T-How does Oedipus not even think for a second that the man he killed on his journey to the city could have been Liaus?
Y- This reading made me feel like they should really clean up the city better.

  7. T-I read that the preist wants Oedipus to stop the plague by finding Liaus's murderer.
EX-"Here I am myself—you all know me, the world knows my fame: I am Oedipus." (7-9)
T-Why does the preist think that Oedipus has the power to stop the plague?
Y-This reading made me feel like this city has some bad luck.

  8. T- I read about Oedipus was begged by the priest to save the town from the plague.
EX-"Raise up our city, save it and raise it up." (429, 59)
T-Why do he think that Oedipus can stop it why doesn't the priest go to someone else.
Y-This reading made me feel bad for the city that the plague was in.

  9. T-Something I read about is how Oedipus learns about Laius and how he was the king before him.he also learns that the clue is in Thebes, but he also learns that Laius was killed when he left Thebes to go to another embassy.
EX-”He went, he said himself. Upon an embassy, but never returned when he set out from home.”(130,431)
T- Does Creon already know who killed Laius or doe she have to find out like every body else and does Creon know who Oedipus really is.
Y- This gave me a innuendo on who Laius killer was.

  10. T-I read about how the entire city is relying on Oedipus to save them from the plague.
EX-"Now Oedipus, Greates's in all men's eyes here falling at your feet we entreat you, find us some strength for rescue." (46-48)
T- Why doesn't Oedipus just check the irrigation system to make sure that it is clean, and functioning properly, instead of going on a manhunt for Liaus killer?
Y-This reading made me go woahhhh...this story is about to get deep.

  11. T-I read about how a plague is affecting the city of Thebes.
EX-"Noblest of men, go, and raise up our city..."(Sophocles 83)
T-Why does everyone rely on Oedipus to fix things?
Y-This reading made me wonder why Oedipus seemed reluctant to help his city.

  12. I read about how the preist would like for Oedipus to rescue the city from the plague.
"Now Oedipus, Greatest in all men's eyes, here falling at your feet we all entreat you, find us some strenght for rescue' (428 46-48). Oedipus is the king and normally kings asign others to do the dirty work so why does the preist insist on Oedipus? When the city is in need the people only rely on Oedipus when others should also stand up and help.

  13. T-I read about how Oedipus is told to find the murderer of Laius to help stop the plauge.
EX- "King you yourself have seen our city reeling like a wreck. (427 1.22-23)
T- Why will finding the murderer help stop then plauge?
Y- This make me feel that the whole thing and all the pressure is being put on the the shoulders of Oedipus, it all depends on him.

  14. T- I read about how the city Thebes is relying on Oedipus to find the murderer of Laius and end the plauge.

EX- "Now Oedipus, Greatest in all men's eyes, here falling at your feet we all entreat you, find us some strength for rescue. Perhaps you'll hear a wise word from some god" (Sophocles 1. 46-49).

T- Why can't anyone else find the murderer to help stop the plauge and why will finding the murderer stop the plauge?

Y- While reading this it made me feel stressed because all of the city is relying on Oedipus to save them, and if I were him I'd be stressed about it. This relates to me because I have had somewhat the same type of stress because people are relying on me to do something that will make a lot of things better.

  15. T- I learned that Oedipus saved the city.
Ex- "You came and by your coming saved our city, freed us from tribute which we paid of old to the sphinx.."
T- What will Oedipus' fate be if he doesn't find the murder and stop the plague?
Y- This reading makes me feel like Oedipus will have to take the challenge of saving everyone the weight of keeping men alive is on him.

  16. T - I read about the priest and the crowd pleading with Oedipus to save thei city again from a plague.
EX - "I pity you, children. You have come full of longing, but I have known this story before you told it only too well" (1.66-68).
T - What will the people of Thebes do when they find do that Oedipus is the murderer?
Y - I really like the irony behind all this. Oedipus says that he is as sick no one else of this plague, yet he is causing it.

  17. T- It was about Oedipus the King, who saved the city.
EX- "You're old and they are young; come, speak for them."
T- What made them think that Oedipus could stop the plague?
Y- It wasn't really related to me but it has a good manuscript which makes it interesting to read.

  18. T- The reading was about the town Thebes trusting Oedipus so they wont get sick from the plague.
Ex-”He went, he said himself. Upon an embassy, but never returned when he set out from home.”(Oedipus 130,431)
T-How does finding the killer stop the plague?
Y- Will Oedipus save his city or will he run away and leave Thebes with the Plague?

  19. I read about how the city of Thebes is trusting that Oedipus will save them from the plague. Although Oedipus is very full of himslef and I personally don't think he can do much to help them. "I Oedipus whom all men call the Great" (427.7). Why does Oedipus have such a sense of entitlement when he hasn't really accomplished anything the would make him worthy of the title the Great? I feel like everyone will be dissapointed if Oedipus can't live up to what he says he is.
