  1. T- I read about how Creon and Teiresais attempt to tell Oedipus that he is the killer of Laius but he is still in denile.
EX - "So long as you are here you'll be a vexation so leave and never trouble me again!" These words are spoken by Oedipus to Teiresaius and Oedipus states how he will banish Teiresaius if he keeps telling him that he is the killer of Laius.
T - Why does Oedipus not know he is the killer of Laius his father?
Y - This part of Oedipus does not relate to me but it does make me feel bad because he is blaming others for his wrong doing.

  2. T: Teiresais and creon try to convince oedipus that he is the killer. then oedipus denies it and is accusing creon of being the murderer. creon explains that he wouldnt do such a thing because he doesnt want the throne, he likes who he is now and wouldnt want to ruin it. oedipus then says he wants to kill creon before they are inturupted by jocasta.

EX:"How should despotic rule seem sweeter to me than painless power and an assured athority?"

T: I still dont get why Oedipus would accuse his wifes(Jocasta) brother of being the murderer and than want to kill him. wouldn't that make jocasta resent him just a little?

Y: this doesnt relate to me but this makes me feel pitty for all those who have been accused of something so big by a higher athority then them and have been punished for it even when they didnt do it.

  3. T- Oedipus is blamed for the killing of Laius, he denies it and fights back at Tiresias and Creon individually blaming them for the death in a flight of anger. Also a brief intermission from the Strophe and Anti strophe parts of the chorus.

EX- "Lately from the snowy Parnassus clearly the voice flashed forth, bidding each Theban track him down, the unknown murder." (Sophocles 537)

T- Do the other townsfolk/the chorus believe Teiresias when he says Oedipus is the killer?

Y-I have in my life, too been angry at something i know is true. Its a common symptom of disbelief.

  4. t- oedipus is accused of being the killer. he is outraged and trys to attack Tiresias and creon.
ex- how should despotic rule seem sweeter then painless power
t- i dont understand how they know it was oedipus.
y- this doesnt really relate because i have never done something that bad with out knowing. i also have never been trying to bust someone that turned out to be me.

  5. T- Tiresias and Creon attempt to tell Oedipus that he was the man that killed the previous king. But Oedipus thought both of them are wrong. Both Tiresias and Creon argue with Oedipus about this issue. And at one point oedipus attempts to kill Creon but Oedipus's mom/wife stops comes in and saves the day and no one is killed.
EX- "You know yourself whether he said this but i demand that i should hear as much from you as you did from me."
T-Why will Oedipus not listen to Tiresias and Creon about who killed the King?
Y- In today society when a person commit a crime he/she may point fingers at other people. That way they are not blamed or shunned in society for the crime they committed

  6. T-Oedipus accuse of killing the king argues with both Tiresias and Creon
EX-"then here ill not be proved a murderer"
T- How wouldn't he know he killed his father?
Y- I haven't done anything as bad, to where I start pointing fingers

  7. T- In this reading, Oedipus was accused of killing his father and marrying his mother. Tiresias and Creon argue with Oedipus about the fact that he killed his dad and married his mom.
Ex-"Lately from the snowy Parnassus clearly the voice flashed forth, bidding each Theban track him down, the unknown murder." (Sophocles 537)
T- Why wouldn't Oedipus know that he married his own mom?
Y- I thought that it was understandable for him to not know that he killed his dad. It is not reasonable that he married his mom. Usually, when you want to marry a person, you know their name but I guess Oedipus is in to being anonymos in a relationship.

  8. T- I learned about Oedipus refusing to believe that he is the murderer of King Laius. He doesn't believe Creon and Teiresias and gets very enraged.
EX- "It is not fate that I should be your ruin, Apollo is enough; it is his care to work this out." This quote was said by Teiresias explaining that it was Apollo who says oedipus is the murderer.
T- Why doesn't Oedipus try to find the killer instead of argue that it is not him. They might find out quicker that way.
Y- I thought that Oedipus was being very stubborn, even though he is being accused of something he cannot recall doing. He does not look at the facts and needs to investigate into the problem so he will finally know it is himself.

  9. T- Oedipus is accused of being the killer of Lauis, He doesnt want to believe that he is the killer though.
EX- "I demand that I should hear as much from you as you did from me."
T- I'm wondering why oedipus doesn't have common sense and try to find the killer of lauis so that everyone can get off his back of accusing him for the murder.
Y- I would feel like an idiot trying to fool people about killing someone. Honestly now a days you wouldnt get away with arguing it. you can tell when someone is lying because then try and try their hardest to get people to beleive them, but actually in the long run, they get caught and thrown in jail. Well in the olden days they would execute you, but you get the point.
