  1. T -Hector and Achilles have a one on one battle. Though Achilles receives help from the gods and is able to over take Hector and kill him. Once Achilles kills Hector, he ties Hector to the back of a chariot and drags him around Troy while Hectors wife and parents watched. HIs wife then states what it is going to be like being a widow.

EX- "So his whole head was dragged down in the dust. And now his mother began to tear out her hair..."

T- Why did Achilles drag Hectors' body around Troy? What satisfaction did he get from dragging Hector?

Y- Today in battle, when a soldier/ great warrior has been killed we do not just torture them such as Achilles did to Hector. We return the body so a proper ceremony can take place to honor the soldier/ warrior.

  2. T- I read about how Achilles kills Hector in a gruesome one on one battle in Troy
EX- "So his whole head dragged down in the dust... "
T- Why was Achilles so over joyed to know that he killed Hector? Does this scene have something to do with cleos and time?
Y- I cannot relate to this reading because I currently do not know anyone who has died in battle or anyone who has had someone die in battle. This reading does make me feel very sad just because of the way Achilles went about Hectors death after battle by dragging his body around Troy like he was trying to prove a point. This scene depicts a very horrid battle that is one of the key events in the Iliad so far.

  3. T- Achilles's ad Hector's battle.
EX- "Because it was you, Hector, you and you alone who shielded the gates and the long walls of Troy."
T-If Hector had killed Achilles, would troy have been victorious in the Trojan war?
Y-This passage made me feel as if the role of Protagonist ans Antagonist have been switched completely, making Troy seem like the good guys and the Greeks seem to be the bad guys.

  4. T-Hector and Achilles fight each other after Hector accidentally kills Patriclus thinking that he was Achilles.
EX-"...brilliant Achilles drove his spear and the point went stabbing clean through the tender neck..."(Fagles 352)
    T-Did Achilles get wounded?
Y-I felt that Achilles really wanted to kill Hector since Hector killed Patriclus and Achilles was very close with his cousin.

  5. T-Achilles and Hector fought each other infront of the Trojan walls, and while they were fighting the gods were interfering and helping each fighter gain the upper hand.
EX- "Death cut him short. The end closed in around him. Flying free of his limbs." (Fagles 353).
T- Why did Achilles show Hector's body no respect after he had died?
Y- I thought that the way Achilles struck down Hector and tied his body to his chariat was very harsh, he should have atleast let the Trojans keep their fallen warriors body.

  6. T- achilles and hector fight in front of troy because hector killed achiulles brother
EX-brilliant achilles drove his spear ans the point went stabbing through his neck.(352)
T-why did achilles have to be so mean about dragging hectors body around
Y- i feel that achilles should have been the bigger man and left the body there. this would show that achilles was truly a man.

  7. T- The battle between Achilles and Hector.
EX- "Hector-surely you thought when you stripped Patroclus' armor that you, you would be safe!
T- I dont understand why Hector would use Achilles's armor because Achilles knows all of the weaknesses?
Y- This doesnt realte to me but it shows me that in battle your enemy will always have a weakness and if you know that weakness than it is even easier to take them down.

  8. T: Achilles and Hector battle to the death in a fight over Achilles' great friend patroclus. Even though Achilles had some help with the gods by persuasing hector to stop running from Achilles and fight Achilles came out successful but only because he that Hector was wearing his old armor and saw his weak spots.

EX: "Now you'll pay at a stroke for all my comrades' grief, all you killed in the furry of your spear!"

T: Why would Hector run from Achilles in the first place if all he's wanted to do in his lifetime was defeat Achilles at battle?

Y: This doesnt relate to me in any way but it shows me that making enemies isnt the best thing to do because all it comes down to is a fight in the end.
